GUWAHATI, Dec 25 Minor road accidents due to the prevalent foggy conditions have irked the people living along of Hatigaon-Bhetapara road, who have been appealing to the authorities concerned to provide proper traffic aid like speed-breakers, glow signs and road dividers, etc., in the area for past several months.
The residents of the area have also expressed their resentment over the lack of adequate parking space on either side of the road.
The Hatigaon-Bhetapara road is a very busy road of the city, which also serves as a mini highway. Due to lack of speed breakers and road dividers etc., major and minor road accidents occur every now and then on the road.
Recently, some concerned citizens of our locality gave a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro regarding the urgent need of proper traffic management on the road. The life of commuters is always at risk on this road. We have already urged the authorities to take necessary action but nothing has been done till date, Hafijul Ahmed a local of the area said.
Minor accidents and collisions have increased on the road in the last few days due to the low visibility. The prevalent condition might lead to major accidents if adequate glow signs and lights are not given on the road, another local of the area mentioned.
Moreover, the pedestrians, particularly senior citizens and school-going children of the area face immense difficulty in crossing the road due to the lack of zebra crossings. In our memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, we have also mentioned about the plight of night commuters and urged the authorities to provide adequate street lights, glow signs etc., on the road, Ahmed added.
