Fog hits train services to North India

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 9 It is that time of the year again, and train passengers are beginning to feel the impact. Delays are becoming frequent on the trains connecting Guwahati and North India.

According to NF Railway officials the delays are due to situations in the North Indian plains where fog has affected the smooth plying of trains. "Loco pilots have been instructed to cut down on speed, and hence the delays," said a senior NF Railway official.

According to him, around nine to ten trains traversing the North Indian plains have been affected for the last couple of days. Consequently, trains have arrived late in Guwahati and their departure from Guwahati and other places have been delayed.

Several trains have been rescheduled from Guwahati, and more could have delayed departures and arrivals in the days ahead.

Delays between one hour and three hours have so far been recorded, and it could shoot up as the fog situation worsens in the winter season.

NFR sources said that by and large trains to East and South India have not been delayed due to fog conditions, and nearly all are plying on schedule. "There are no visibility problems in North Bengal and Assam," an NFR official revealed.

Passengers on trains to New Delhi and other places in North India have been urged to check departure times of trains by NF Railway.
