By Staff Correspondent

JORHAT, Aug 20 - The increase in the water level of Bhogdoi river and other rivers in the district since the past few days has resulted in floods submerging 14 villages under Teok and Jorhat West Revenue Circles of the district since Monday with over 8000 people affected.

A district administration source stated that although there has been no huge rainfall in Jorhat and its adjoining areas, the Bhogdoi and other rivers have risen due to rains in Nagaland, flooding some parts of the district. The Bhogdoi originates in the Naga Hills and flows into the Brahmaputra.

Under Jorhat West Revenue Circle 5072 people have been affected in four villages Malowkhat, Malowpam, Borbhetti and Randhanijan, the source said. This is the third wave of floods to hit the area this year.

Under the Teok Revenue Circle, 3670 people have been affected in 10 villages, the source said.

The district administration has opened six relief camps under Jorhat West Revenue Circle in which 2151 people have been lodged, the source stated, adding that under the Teok Revenue Circle 15 relief distribution centres were set up.
