Floods hit 12.5 lakh in State

GUWAHATI, July 25 - The number of people hit by the current wave of flood has shot up to around 12.5 lakh in 2,106 villages under 58 revenue circles of 18 districts today. Meanwhile, the Brahmaputra is flowing above its danger level at Dibrugarh, Neamatighat, Tezpur, Guwahati, Goalpara and Dhubri, while the Burhidihing is flowing above its danger level at Khowang, Subansiri is flowing above its danger level at Badatighat, Dhansiri (South) is flowing above its danger level at Numaligarh, Jia Bharali is flowing above its danger level at NT Road Crossing, Puthimari is flowing above its danger level at NH Road Crossing, Beki is flowing abode its danger level at Road Bridge and Sankosh is flowing above its danger level at Golakganj, said the Assam State Disaster Management Authority in its evening flood bulletin here today.

The affected districts include Lakhimpur (1,07,981 people affected), Golaghat (1,12,421), Bongaigaon (72,038), Jorhat (1,33,823), Dhemaji (1,75,857), Sivasagar (25,159), Barpeta (1,35,590), Kokrajhar (6,790), Nagaon (21,052), Dibrugarh (74,286), Chirang (19,246), Goalpara (24,822), Tinsukia (45,248), Dhubri (1,69,950), Morigaon (11,012), Sonitpur (32,394), Biswanath (78,763) and Darrang (1,320).

The current flood wave has damaged a total crop area of 99,416.44 hectares and has forced 88,133 people to take shelter in the relief camps the authorities have rescued 1179 marooned people in Barpeta (679) and Jorhat (5000, said the flood bulletin.
