Flood submerges 63 villages in Nalbari dist

NALBARI, June 27 - The Mora Pagladia river again breached its embankment at Da Kaunia village in Nalbari district today and submerged ten more villages under Paschim Nalbari and Tihu Revenue circles. The river, which is flowing above its danger mark, also breached its embankment twice at Sialmari areas yesterday and day before yesterday and inundated more than 20 villages.

According to the official sources, a totat of 63 villages have been badly affected due to the current wave of flood. Sources said that about 59,600 people under seven revenue circles namely, Paschim Nalbari, Tihu, Barkshetri, Banekuchi, Ghograpar, Barbhag and Nalbari have so far been affected. The flood waters also affected 390.76 hectares of crop land and 56,252 domestic animal have been affected.

In Barkhetri revenue circle, the swollen water of the Brahmaputra river submerged the entire char areas. Similarly, the low-lying areas of Barbhag revenue circle are also under waist to chest-deep water.
