Flood situation in Southsalmara Mankachar worsens

HATSINGIMARI, June 26 - The flood situation in Southsalmara Mankachar district has been turning critical because of the incessant rainfall for the last few days.

According to official sources, the water levels of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries have been flowing 23 cm above danger levels and showing a rising trend.

In the first wave of floods, thousands of hectares of cropland have already been submerged. The present flood situation is also getting worse due to riverbank erosion at several places of the district.
