Flood situation improves in West Dhemaji

DHEMAJI, Aug 19 - The flood situation in West Dhemaji area has improved considerably following cessation in rainfall. The level of floodwater has come down in all the flood-affected villages in the area. However, a lot of inmates are still taking shelter in a shelter camp at Bordalani.

The Dhemaji district administration has taken appropriate measures for providing flood-relief to the affected people. Several institutions including Dhemaji College provided flood-relief items to the people.

It may be mentioned here that more than 20 villages in west Dhemaji including Goyekhana, Adarsha gaon, Bothadoi, Phutukabari Chapari, Gohain Chapari, Pehiyati, Kahikuchi, Dhobabari, Barhamthuriani, Lakhtakia, Laguabara etc., were totally inundated after 300 metres of the Kumatia embankment was breached.

Army distributes flood relief: A flood-relief column of the Indian Army on August 17 distributed food materials among the flood-hit people of several villages including Guyekhana, Adarsha gaon, Phutukabari Chapari, Bothadoi, Dhobabari etc., in West Dhemaji area.

The column of 63 Engineer Regiment distributed more than 500 packets of drinking water, 500 kg food materials and a good quantity of cooked food among the stranded people of the flood-hit villages.
