Flood situation improves in Hailakandi dist

HAILAKANDI, July 19 - Continuing her inspection of the damaged infrastructure for the second day, Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli toured many areas under Algapur Revenue Circle on Friday.

Starting out in the morning hours with officials of district administration and departments concerned, Jalli visited Mohanpur embankment where a major breach had occurred inundating many areas under Algapur Revenue Circle. Jalli instructed the Water Resources department officials to plug the breach immediately before the next wave of floods.

The Deputy Commissioner inspected the Pola sluice gate at Polarpar and asked the Water Resources department officials to immediately rectify the defects so that it discharges volume of water to its optimum level during the floods. Jalli had inspected the sluice gate on Thursday.

The Deputy Commissioner along with Circle Officer, Algapur, Arpita Dutta visited the flood affected areas such as Kalinagar Part I, Baghmara and Doleswari and gave necessary directions to the concerned officials to fortify the embankment on a war footing.

The Deputy Commissioner interacted with the flood-hit people and assured them of all possible help and assistance.

Jalli asked all the departments concerned to submit detailed flood damage report along with proper documentation for onward submission to the State government. State Finance Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma through video conferencing on Thursday had asked the DCs of flood-affected districts to submit infrastructure damage estimates at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the flood situation further improved in the district with water receding in different parts of the district. As of now, 28 villages under Algapur Revenue Circle are reeling under flood waters.

Medical teams numbering 60 have fanned out to provide medical care and treatment, including medicines to the affected people. Veterinary and Animal Husbandry department organised 10 vaccination and treatment camps for the affected livestock.
