Flood scene in Barpeta district remains critical

By Correspondent

BARPETA, July 13 - The overall flood situation in Barpeta district remained critical today with the extension of affected area. An estimated 5.25 lakh people of about 400 villages are languishing under floods.

The only matter of solace today is that water level of rivers Beki, Manas and Kaldia showed a receding trend. But other rivers flowing through the district including the mighty Brahmaputra were rising and flowing above the danger mark.

About 2500 hectares of cropland has been damaged by the devastating floods so far and about 1.2 lakh cattle have been severely affected.
