Flood hits Bokajan subdivision

DIPHU, Sept 1 - Incessant rainfall in the catchment areas of Dhansiri river and in almost all areas of Bokajan subdivision of Karbi Anglong district has flooded a vast area of Bokajan town, Lahorijan, Khatkati etc.

Unremitting heavy downpour in the adjoining Patkai hill range of Nagaland engorged Dhansiri river, which eventually inundated the valley areas causing wide-scale landslides and a deluge in low-lying areas. One RCC bridge connecting old Lahorijan and Dimapur city of Nagaland has been washed away by the overflowing Dhansiri. Around 4000 people have been trapped in that area.

According to information received, civil administration along with other agencies have begun relief and rescue operations in the affected areas. No information of any causality has come till the filing of this report. Many places in Bokajan town experienced severe water-logging.
