Flood-hit villagers yet to receive relief materials

By Correspondent

NAMONI GAYON GAON (Jorhat), July 9 - Though the district administration took up necessary measures to provide relief materials, including foodstuff, several villagers of the flood-hit revenue village called Namoni Gayan Gaon which has remained completely under floodwaters since Friday morning today alleged that they have not received any of the relief materials.

According to them, the distribution of relief materials was not monitored properly as the families remained deprived of rice, packaged drinking water, dal, salt, etc., till this evening. Officials had yesterday said that we would be provided with foodstuff in this village. Though the administration has sent all these items, we are yet to get any of them, said Romen Gayan, a villager.

His neighbours like Junu Gayon, Robin Chandra Gayon and others alleged that the gaonburha did not prepare the list of all the affected families, which delayed the distribution of relief materials.

It is pertinent to mention here that these flood-hit people were living in raised platforms made of bamboo in their inundated houses. Asked why they refrained from living in the relief camps, the villagers said that there is not enough space for all the families to stay in the camps.
