Flood claims 559 KNP animals

GUWAHATI, July 7 � State Forest Minister Rockybul Husain today informed that a total of 559 animals of Kaziranga National park had died in the recent floods.

These include 14 rhinos, one elephant, 10 swam deer, one buffalo, 475 hog deers, 18 sambars, 30 wild boars, five porcupines, two hog badgers, two gaurs and one fox.

The casualty figure inside KNP in 1988 and 1998 floods stood at 1023 and 652 respectively.

Hussain while talking to media persons today said that the water level has gone below the danger level mark and measures are being initiated to assess the damage caused by the recent wave of floods.
