TEZPUR, June 29 � Altogether 2.22 lakh people of 243 villages have been affected by the flood in Sonitpur district and 1.77 lakh people are taking shelter in 100 relief camps in different places of the district. On the other hand, 1200 people have been shifted to safe places.
Meanwhile, the district administration sources stated in a press note issued here today that a total of 110 relief teams are engaged to expedite the quick distribution of relief items among the flood affected people of the district. Sources further stated here that as per the report gathered today from the department concerned the Brahmaputra is still flowing above the danger level here in Ganeshghat.
It is to be stated here that the river Brahmaputra and some of it�s major tributaries including Jiabharali, Gabharu, Belsiri, Diputa etc. are still flowing above the danger marks at various places.
The Jamuguri-Gohpur embankment is facing the fury of sever erosion during the past few days. Sources also informed that the erosion caused by the river Jiabharali has eroded a large area of paddy field posing serious threat to Bihiagaon, Kurukani, Rajgarh, Gorshinga, Purani Alimur etc. villages in greater Panchmile area near here.
It may be mentioned here that, the guide bundh constructed last year by the DRDA between Bihiagaon and Kurukani area has been breached few days back due to the sever erosion. Tapan Chandra Sharma, deputy commissioner, Sonitpur has ordered the PHE to the supply pure drinking water among the flood affected people so that the water borne diseases cannot affect the flood victims.
Bokakhat Correspondent adds: The over all flood situation in Bokakhat sub-division including at Kazaringa National Park improved today. However, one departmental mahut of the park Durja Bouri(50) drowned at Mihimukh river under KNP.
In another incident two persons of Dusutimukh area namely Bimal Kaman and Brojan Kaman was arrested for carrying the meat of the deer from Hathikhuli.
