Flash floods damage houses in Dhubri dist

By Correspondent

HATSINGIMARI, May 23 Flash floods caused heavy damage to about eight houses at Chandmari under Mankachar police station of Dhubri district on Saturday morning.

The local people informed that due to heavy rains in Meghalaya hill slopes, flash floods were caused in the area. The destruction was caused by breaching of the embankment of the irrigation department at the site of sluice gate which was blocked at that time.

The local people feel that there should an employee of the irrigation department to look after the sluice gate. In the absence of a departmental man, the gate was blocked and the incident occurred, they claimed.

In this connection, a group of local people submitted a written complaint to the SDO (C) of Hatsingimari on Saturday and demanded an inquiry into the incident, besides appealing for compensation against the damage.
