Five smugglers nabbed

SHILLONG, June 18 - The Border Security Force (BSF) along with a team of the Meghalaya police raided a house near the Indo-Bangla border at Shella, East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya and seized a gold bar worth over Rs 3.15 lakh and apprehended five individuals in this connection.

The arrested persons are- Wali Ul Miraz (31 ), Imran Khan (27 ), Shaharuddin (28 ), Sirajuh Haque (30 ) all hailing from Barpeta Assam and Sidora Shongwan of Shella.

�There has been no seizure of gold along Indo-Bangladesh border since long, though smuggling of gold has always been in news but through other routes. This is a maiden seizure of gold by BSF troops in Meghalaya,� said Inspector General BSF, Meghalaya Frontier, PK Dubey.

He further said, �The sudden increase in smuggling activities have put BSF troops more on the toes. We are determined to foil any ill design of the smugglers on the international border�.

Apprehended persons and all the seized items handed over to concerned department for further legal action.

Meanwhile, heavy rain has also disturbed the administrative toil of few BSF outposts in Purnanagar, Shela, Thariaghat, Betgora, Omkhawa, Mukamchera areas in East Khasi Hills district, Barmanbari, Kachuadogri in South West Khasi Hills district, Sonatal in West Jaintia Hills Dist and Angratoli in South Garo Hills district of Meghalaya. Flood like situation at places has caused huge damage to the Indo-Bangladesh Border Fence (IBBF) at many places.
