Five held in murder case

MANGALDAI, Aug 23 - The police arrested five persons on Wednesday in connection with the murder of Moktar Ali (37), a local Congress party worker. The police also seized the 7.65 mm bore pistol which was used in firing incident.

All the accused arrested were connected with the Indo-Bangla international cattle trade via Dhubri, the police said.

A team of Darrang police arrested the two prime accused � Jonab Ali (29) of Sarthebari and Dipankar Deka of Tamulpur, Baksa from a hideout in Ganespara area of Guwahati on Tuesday night. Both of them reportedly admitted that they were direct involvement in the August 19 incident. The accused told the police that they had a conflict with Moktar over a monetary issue.

The police also arrested three other accused identified as Safiqul Islam (30) of Barpeta , Nurul Islam (28) of Besimari, Darrang, and Aiyaz Ali (42) of Kaliapara , Aulachowka, for their involvement in the case.
