SILCHAR, May 16 - The Cachar District Administration has opened five biometric enrollment centres(BME) , all inside the premises of the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate here on Thursday.

According to sources, people who have filed their claims for inclusion of names in the National Register of Citizens (NRC) need to bring their claim letters with photographs attached along with proof of identity can come to get their names enrolled between10am to 5pm.

Talking to The Assam Tribune on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri said, "there is a lot of backlog and hence these centers have been opened up with a view to expedite the biometric enrollment process for those NRC claimants whose hearings had already been done but they are yet to enroll in the biometric enrollment system."

She informed that the centres have been opened at the district headquarters to ease the quests of the claimants who would otherwise hop around the GP offices looking for the BME centres. Depending on the rush, more machines will be increased, she said.

"Besides, manual and walk-in pattern of appointment across the five windows in the CJM campus for BME enrollment, we are will also introduce online mode of taking appointment for the enrollment," Madduri added.
