First-ever NE women�s drama fest in Imphal from today

IMPHAL, Dec 23 - The first-ever North East women�s drama festival will be held in Imphal from December 24 to January 2, 2020. The 10-day festival is being organised by local theatre group Khengjonglang in collaboration with Sangeet Natak Akademi and JN Manipur Dance Akademy.

The festival will be held at the Khengjonglang complex near Irilbung in Imphal, said festival director Dr S Thaninleima. Ten women theatre groups of the North East will present 10 plays, and a national seminar on theatre will also held from December 25 to 28.

Women theatre directors Ima Sabitri of Kalakshetra, S Thaninleima of Khengjonglang (Manipur), Rojibita Gogoi of Jirsong Theatre (Assam), Bijoli Chakraborty of Jagitri Culture Society (Tripura), Toijam Shila of Prospective Repertory Theatre (Manipur), Kismat Bano of Wings Theatre (Assam) and L Randhoni of PADA (Manipur) will present plays at the festival. Two award-winning folk dramas (Shumang Leela) will also be staged.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh, MLA L Rameshwar Meitei and festival committee chairperson K Radhakumar will attended the inaugural function.
