DULIAJAN, Dec 2 � A major fire broke at the Central Browser Unloading Station (CBUS) of the country�s second largest oil major, Oil India Limited at Tipling, adjacent to the oil collecting station-3 beside the Duliajan-Digboi road around 2 pm today.
Two browsers, one carrying crude oil and the other condensate oil, caught fire while unloading, prompting shutdown of the CBUS.
According to information available, the crude oil-carrying browser caught fire first, which then spread to the condensate-carrying browser waiting for unloading, and finally spread to the reserver point of the CBUS, where the crude oil from the producing wells were being unloaded.
The fire was contained around 4 pm after hectic efforts by fire-tenders. There is no report of any casualty, except minor injuries to both the drivers of the browsers while fleeing the fire.
Meanwhile, refuting the claim by the anti-talk faction of the ULFA that an explosion triggered by it led to the fire, the Dibrugarh district administration stated in a statement, after an inquiry into the incident, that the oil tanker caught fire while unloading the crude oil due to sparks. �It is not an act of sabotage and there is no casualty,� the statement read.
An OIL spokesperson, who had stated that the reason of the fire could be ascertained only after a detailed enquiry, also dismissed the possibility of any sabotage.
