JORHAT, April 7 � After an explosion at the hydrocracker plant at Numaligarh Refinery, a devastating fire engulfed the plant around 6.45 pm today. Fire tenders from Golaghat, Bokakhat, Dergaon and Jorhat have reached the spot to douse the fire.
Attempts were still continuing to control the inferno from spreading to the nearby areas, till filing of this report.
Even though the actual cause of the explosion is yet to be ascertained, the anti-talk faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (Ulfa) has claimed that the blast was carried out by it by using a magnetic-time device.
In a press release issued late in the evening, Joy Asom, publicity secretary of the banned organisation, stated that it was part of the outfit�s routine activity to protest against the government.
