GUWAHATI, Aug 22 - Singer Jitul Sonowal was involved in a drunken brawl with some youths late last night at the Paltan Bazar Police Station. He has also been accused of getting into an altercation with police and manhandling a constable.
In a video of the brawl that emerged in social networking sites, Sonowal is seen engaged in a heated verbal duel with a group of youths in presence of police in front of the Paltan Bazar Police Station.
�Sonowal was in an inebriated condition. He initially had an altercation with the driver of a vehicle. He was then taken to the police station, where too, he created a scene,� a police official said, refusing to elaborate.
In the video the youths are seen charging him with assaulting people, including a police personnel. �I don�t care,� Sonowal is heard telling the youths in the video.
Sonowal�s shirt was unbuttoned and he was without shoes, implying that he indeed had engaged in a physical confrontation.
Today, constable Ranjit Baruah lodged an FIR against Sonowal over his �misbehaviour�. The case has been registered under Sections 294 (obscene acts or words), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
