FIR against erring citizen ordered

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 5 - Taking a strong view of the blocking of a drain by an individual in the Jaypur area of Kharghuli locality, the Kamrup Metro district administration today directed the Circle Officer of the Guwahati Revenue Circle to file an FIR against the individual concerned and also ordered clearing of the drain.

The Circle Officer of the Guwahati Revenue Circle has reported that a public drain at Jaypur, Kharghuli, is blocked due to earth-filling and placing of concrete slab over the drain by Dhiren Mahanta in his periodic patta land, causing inundation of that locality. It is also found that Mahanta has blocked the smooth passage of the public drain by totally covering the manholes without intimation to any authority concerned, stated an order issued by Dr M Angamuthu, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro district and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) of Kamrup Metro.

It added that Mahanta has been directed under the Disaster Management Act 2005 to clear the entire accumulated soil from the drain and also dismantle the slabs as per suggestion of the Public Works Department (Roads) division and the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) within two days.

He (Mahanta) is also directed to bear the entire cost of the intended work. The Circle Officer of Guwahati Revenue Circle is directed to lodge an FIR against Mahanta, said the order.

It added that additional works like clearing of the blocked portion for smooth passage of the drain are to be taken up by the PWD and the GMC immediately.
