FINER hails poll outcome, seeks Act East Policy implementation

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 24 - The Federation of Industry and Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER) has welcomed the verdict of the electorate in the recent parliamentary elections and expressed hope for a total implementation of the Act East Policy to bring about a major focus towards international trade and commerce between the North East region and ASEAN countries.

FINER president Pabitra Buragohain said the decisive mandate would ensure stability and provide an opportunity to the Central government to carry forward economic reforms initiated by them in the last five years. This, he said, would have a far-reaching social impact.

The Act East Policy needs to be implemented with full vigour to boost the trade and commerce between the NE region and the South East Asian countries, he said, adding that the state governments of the region and the Centre can now work in tandem and ensure implementation of policies and schemes to bring about a transformation in the north-eastern region which would attract investments in industry, generate employment and develop an ecosystem for entrepreneurship.

FINER vice-president Bajrang Lohia emphasised smooth execution of the North East Industrial Development Scheme (NEIDS) after a thorough review of its provisions and bringing in amendments as have been suggested by FINER in the form of a memorandum submitted to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and the Ministry of DoNER.

He said that with more focus on ease of doing business, and on improving the necessary infrastructure, logistics and connectivity, the region can flourish in the field of industry and commerce.

The industry body pointed out that with enormous resources in terms of raw materials and talent, the region can make huge progress once the policies and schemes are streamlined and rigorously implemented with close monitoring.
