Financial literacy awareness programme

GORESWAR, Dec 17 - A daylong awareness programme on financial literacy was held at Gashbari Haricharan Sangha under the National Bank For Agriculture And Rural Development (NABARD) in association with the Assam Gramin Vikash Bank (AGVB), Muktapur branch on December 15. Kanthi Saikia, social worker and a mofussil journalist working for The Assam Tribune conducted the programme.

A total of 150 participants, both men and women of the vast Gashbari area were present in the programme. Majority of the women who attended the programme were the presidents, secretaries and members of various Self Help Groups of the area.

Babul Barman, a worker of the AGVB, Muktapur branch explained the objectives of the awareness programme while the branch manager of the bank Lohit Baishya dwelt at length on the awareness programme and its necessity explaining the bank�s rules and regulations. He also asked the participants to make depositing money in the AGVB bank branch of Muktapur a habit to avail loan facilities comparatively easily and with more benefits than other banks. Fanidhar Nath, a retired headmaster, who attended as a resource person in the programme and the chairperson Kanthi Saikia also spoke briefly on the occasion.
