GUWAHATI, April 6 - Rotary Club of Gauhati South conferred the first annual Archana and Atul Chandra Goswami Memorial Award on Rituraj Das, a visually-impaired student of Class X of the Blind School, Basistha.

Rituraj, who is from Baksa district, has been visually impaired since birth, but has shown remarkable proficiency in academics as well as in co-curricular activities. The award, consisting of Rs 10,000 and a citation, was presented by Satyendra Nath Phukan, former chairman of NEEPCO at a function held recently. Rituraj will get the same amount annually till he completes his education.

Meanwhile, recognising the potential and exceptional talent of Shahid Afridi, a student of Class VI of the same school, Gayatri Bhattacharya and Prashanta Goswami undertook to formally groom him under Guru Damodar Bora. As a token of appreciation and to help Shahid record songs/music lessons, Dr BM Goswami gifted him an MP3 player.
