GUWAHATI, June 25 � Minister of State (Independent charge), Information and Public Relations, Basanta Das today gave away financial assistance to six journalists of the State under the Journalists� Medical Welfare Scheme, said an official press release.
At a brief function held at the Minister�s conference hall at the Assam Secretariat today, the Minister handed over cheques of Rs 50,000, Rs 25,000 and Rs 50,000, respectively to Chandra Kumar Baruah, Editor of Dainik Pratibedan (now Bureau Chief of Gana Sangbad), Lalit Sharma, Reporter of DY365 and Md Safiqur Rahman, Staff Reporter of Dainik Batori Kakot, respectively.
Three other journalists, who were not present at today�s function, also received assistance under this scheme for the financial year 2013-14. Sanjib Hazarika, Head Correspondent, NE TV, Tezpur received financial assistance worth Rs 50,000; Sankar Laskar, ex-Editor of Niyomiya Barta (now Deputy Editor, Axomiya Pratidin) received Rs. 1,00,000; and Pranab Kumar Das, Tezpur Correspondent of Aaj Tak received an assistance of Rs. 50,000.
The function was attended by Director of Information and Public Relations Ranjit Gogoi, Deputy Secretary, I&PRD, Bandana Choudhury, Joint Director, I&PRD, Pradeep Brahma and other officials and staff of the Directorate.
It may be mentioned that in total twelve journalists of the State have received financial assistance under the Journalists� Medical Welfare Scheme for the financial year 2013-14, said the press release.
