Fighting demonetisation with a smile

By Biplab Kr Dey

TURA, Nov 17 - Queues in front of banks continue to be long even as the sudden demonetisation of high denomination currency has left everyone short of cash. However, Banks and their employees have been putting in much efforts to ensure the situation is brought under control.

While most banks have been struggling with the huge lines and demands of customers in Tura, one bank branch of Tura has been ensuring those that come are not only cared for but also serviced quickly. Meet the IndusInd bank branch team here whose interventions in the current crisis has left quite a lasting impression on those who come to its doors.

Most customers are not aware that money can be exchanged in any branch and not in the branch where they have their accounts. We have made all efforts to ensure that those who come to us are taken care of with lines separate for the senior citizens and women, said branch manager Nandey A Sangma.

Ever since the demonetisation, the branch has handled about a 1,000 persons for exchange with another 1,000 coming in for depositing their old currency into their accounts, unusually high numbers for the branch.

The branch, which opened earlier this year, was also the only one that had its ATM open during the Wangala holiday.

Most customers who visited the branch have only good words to say about the services provided. We will do our bit to ensure that the people that come to us go back with a smile. We are trying to ensure that the demonetisation becomes bearable, said an employee.
