Field day for Assam athletes

GUWAHATI, Jan 13 - It was another eventful day for Assam athletes in the Khelo India Youth Games today.

Assam won six medals today including two gold and two silver.

Cyclist Gongutri Bordoloi won the first gold for Assam today as she came first in 60 km race. Another Assam cyclist Chayanika Gogoi picked a bronze medal in the same category.

Assam�s second gold came through the U-21 boys 4x100m relay team at the Indira Gandhi Athletic stadium. Comprising of Bhum Musahary, Rajib Brahma, Pallab Gogoi, Subarna Kalita � the relay team came first with a timing of 42.35sec. The Assam boys U-17 team featuring Swmkwr Islary, Chinmoy Baruah, Jwngsar Basumatary, Akshay Boro had to be content with the silver medal in the 4x100m relay with a timing of 43.84 seconds.

Rising star Hriday Hazarika settled for silver medal in the 10m Rifle event at the 4th APBn shooting range. Rushiraj B of Gujarat won the gold while Shanhu T of Maharashtra won bronze in that event.

Assam girls U-21 football team drubbed Punjab 9-0 at the Nehru Stadium while the U-17 hockey team also defeated Punjab 3-0 at the Bhetapara hockey stadium.

Salim Ansari won a bronze in U-21 (55kg) Judo event.
