Festive spirit grips Nagaon

NAGAON, Dec 25 - During the last few days, the people of Nagaon seems to be relaxing more and residents, specially the young generation have started going out for picnics with their friends and relatives. Since the New Year is knocking at the door, people here have started preparations to celebrate the occasion with a festive spirit.

On December 25, the people of the Sikh community celebrated the 351st birth anniversary Guru Govind Singh. Since morning, all sections of people visited gurudwaras of Nagaon town and took part in religious rituals.

To mark the day, Sikh people took out a rally through the main thoroughfares of Nagaon town by singing Sabat Kirtan on December 17 and from December 21 akhanda recitation of Guru Grantha Sahib started, which has continued till today. Today people recited the verses from Kirtan in gurudwaras and offered prayers. They prayed for the well-being of all people across the globe.

Meanwhile, the Christian community of Nagaon town celebrated Christmas, the birthday of Lord Jesus Christ. They offered midnight prayers at the Baptist Church here on December 24. During the last few days, the members of the Christian community sang carol also.
