Festive atmosphere prevails in Dhekiajuli on Puja

DHEKIAJULI, Oct 5 � Various sections of people here are celebrating Durga Puja in a festive atmosphere. The puja spirit gripped the people from Mahalaya itself. This year with 17 tea gardens under four police stations in the greater Dhekiajuli area, the puja is being held at 154 pandals.

Saheed Nagar, Dhekiajuli along with its adjoining area, 64 puja pandals have been erected. The oldest puja is being held at Hari Mandir. The Durgabari Puja Committee is observing its golden jubilee this time with various programmes. The Bhattacharjee family of Tamuli Road is also celebrating its 58-year-old puja this year, which also attracts local people.

Other puja mandaps like Kalibari Santipur Yuva Samaj, Amar Samiti, Sanghshree Club, Vivekananda Club, Navajyoty Club, Post Office, Block Office, Bhalukdhara, Daily Market, Weekly Market, Motor Sharmik Union, Hari Sabha etc., are also celebrating the puja. They are arranging various programmes to make the festival more attractive.

At Kataluduba, 10 km from here, which is mainly inhabited by Muslim people, the Hindus are celebrating the puja with the cooperation of their Muslim brothers. Since 1965 they are celebrating Durga Puja through communal harmony. It was possible due to efforts by Joy Ram Bora, circle organiser, village defence party of Dhekiajuli PS.

The local administrative and police have taken all steps for a peaceful puja here.
