KAZIRANGA, Feb 8 - There is good news for wildlife conservationists who have been working hard to improve the existing forest habitat of the Royal Bengal Tiger with limited resources in Assam.
According to the information received, images of a mature female Royal Bengal Tiger and her two cubs were captured during a camera trapping exercise carried out at Laokhuwa-Burachapori Wildlife Sanctuary which is a part of the Kaziranga Tiger Reserve.
Speaking to this correspondent, the Director of Kaziranga Tiger Reserve, P Shiva Kumar said that it was a great news for all of us which proves that existing habitat in Laokhuwa-Burachapori is an ideal breeding place for Royal Bengal Tiger.
Kumar said that Laokhuwa-Burachapori Wildlife Sanctuary was included under Kaziranga Tiger Reserve in 2007, considering the fact that there is a connectivity among different forests adjoining it including the Kaziranga forest. In 2016 another area of 195 square km had been added to Laokhuwa-Burachapori (1st Addition) by the government under the Kaziranga Tiger Reserve ensuring a better habitat for the tiger without having any disturbance.
Kumar said there is connectivity between Kaziranga and Orang forest through Brahmaputra and between Kaziranga and Nameri forest through the Jia Bhoroli river. So there is a move to ensure a healthy corridor connectivity among these different forest areas including Kaziranga for better survival and breeding of the Royal Bengal Tiger.
