JALUKBARI, Dec 13 - A frightened seven-year-old female leopard, which fell into a 30-foot open well and remained stuck there for hours, was rescued near Bokulgaon in the city today.
Sources said the leopard fell into the deserted well located in a hilly area of Boragaon when it came out in search of food.
Veterinarian Dr Bijoy Gogoi jumped into the well after tranquillising the animal and rescued it. Other officials of the Forest Department were also present at the spot.
The local residents rushed to the spot and extended their help to the rescue team.
Leopards are often spotted in this area as it was once their natural habitat that provided a safe cover to these animals. The leopard was later sent to the Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden.
Forest officials present there said medical examination was conducted on the leopard and no external injuries were detected.
