FCI inter-zone cricket

GUWAHATI, Jan 25 � The 43rd edition of the All India Food Corporation of India (FCI) Zonal Cricket Tournament will be held at the Nehru Stadium here from January 27 to 31.

Informing this in a press conference here today, Pinuel Basumatary, Executive Director and president of the Zonal Sports Promotion Committee, NE Zone (ZSPC,NE) said that the championship will be a league-cum-knockout affair among six zonal teams � Head Quarters, North Zone, West Zone, South Zone, East Zone and North East Zone.

Basumatary revealed that some leading players of the country like Rishi Dhawan, Paresh Degra, Akash Malhotra, AW Zaidi, etc., will be seen in action during the championship who will represent different zones. Several Ranji Trophy players, who are employees of FCI, will also accompany their respective zonal teams in the meet.

The FCI team for the PSU championship will be picked from this tournament and for that observers like former India player Debang Gandhi will be deputed.

Basumatary said that as this year FCI is celebrating its golden jubilee year, they are trying to host this cricket championship in a be fitting manner.

Rishab Das will lead the 16-member North East Zone team while Utpal Kalita has been appointed as manager.

ZSPC, NE secretary Angshuman Das and Utpal Kalita were also present in the press conference.
