Farmers urged to improve quality

MANGALDAI, Aug 30 - State Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya has asked the farmers not to compromise with the quality of their produce at the cost of embracing new technology.

�Our farmers should improve quality of their produce as our state has a unique position in producing quality products,� Bhattacharya said while interacting with a group of progressive farmers of Darrang district today. He also distributed tractors to the farmers under the Chief Minister�s Samagra Gramya Yojana programme .

�The farmers should apply modern agriculture technique to double their output, but at the same time they should also maintain their quality which will help in giving proper dividends in the long-run,� he said.

The minister attended the function which was organized by Darrang Agriculture department in association with the district administration at the District Library . He also ceremonially handed over the keys to the five selected farmers� groups in the presence of MLA, Mangaldai , Gurujyoti Das , Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Barman , District Agriculture Officer Nila Kanta Deka and other distinguished guests.

Deputy Commissioner Barman in his address explained various agricultural schemes provided by the government in order to boost their income.

He also urged the farmers to avail the benefits of IFFCO fertilizers sold at a subsidized rate through the GP level CSCs in a quite transparent way under the initiative of the district administration and the agriculture department.

Earlier, while explaining the objectives of the programme District Agriculture Officer , Nila Kanta Deka gave a brief sketch on the schemes introduced by the department . �Our farmers should avail the benefits of the schemes in a bid to enhance their production,� he said.

The meeting was also attended by farmers from various parts of the district.
