NALBARI, May 29 - A three-day training programme on carp polyculture in pond fisheries organised by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Nalbari under the Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART) concluded on Monday at the Nalbari KVK.
In all, 90 fish farmers of the district took part in the training in three batches. The APART project was sponsored by the Govt of Assam and implemented by the Assam Agricultural University for increasing production and productivity of fishes in the state through adoption of modern fish production technologies.
Earlier, the training programme was inaugurated by senior scientist Dr Mridul Deka, who is the head of KVK, Nalbari. He presented a brief outline about the activities of KVK, Nalbari, particularly in regard to the fishery sector.
He highlighted the breeding of local magur, singi, amur carp, jayanti rohu, and lately pavo fish breeding under way in the fish farmers� ponds in the district.
He urged the farmers to adopt modern fish production technologies for increasing productivity, especially in pond culture. The lectures on carp and polyculture were delivered by resource persons from the District Fishery Office at Nalbari, namely Biraj Bikash Sarma, Gunajit Kalita, Kalpajit Talukdar, B Dewan and Dr Utpal Kumar Das from College of Fisheries, Raha.
A lecture-cum-presentation was given by Dr Arfan Ali, scientist of KVK on fishery-based integrated farming system.
In the training, Homeswar Mazumdar, scientist of KVK apprised the fish farmers about horti-fish culture, while Manashi Chakravorty delivered a lecture on soil health and vermicompost production.
The training programme was conducted by Ankur Rajbongshi and Dr Arfan Ali, scientists of KVK, Nalbari. The valedictory session of the training programme on Monday was chaired by Dr Mridul Deka. The District Fishery Development Officer Pratul Bezbaruah took part as chief guest. He thanked both KVK and the participants of the training programme and urged the farmers to utilise their experience in fish production.
He hoped the training programme will help the farmers to implement the knowledge in their ponds for helping Nalbari district develop phenomenally in fish production.
Finally, certificates were distributed among the participants.
