Farmers� Day observed

GUWAHATI, Dec 24 - IDBI Bank Limited, Beltola branch, celebrated the Farmers� Day by organising a Kisan Sangosthi on Pantan High School, Chaygaon, Kamrup, on Wednesday.

Around 250 local farmers from the area, along with representatives of various NGOs, participated in the event.

Rabhijeet Saikia, AGM and branch head of the Beltola branch of the bank, highlighted the various agri products offered by IDBI Bank.

Ugen Tashi, General Manager, IDBI Bank, presided over the function, which was also attended by Dr Sarat Chandra Nath, District Veterinary Officer, Kamrup, Dr Hemanta Deka, Block Veterinary Officer, Chaygaon, Nupur Kalita, ADO, Chaygaon Block, Sarat Chandra Das, secretary, Grameen Sahara, Chaygaon, and other senior officers of government departments.

In his address, Tashi stated that IDBI Bank, which has 30 per cent of its branches in rural areas, is focused on agricultural lending and financing small and marginal farmers, women SHGs, etc. He added that IDBI Bank has appointed over 10,000 agents across India to provide doorstep banking services in remote locations as a part of its financial inclusion initiative. He informed the participating farmers that IDBI Bank provides hassle-free loans to farmers at competitive interest rates and encouraged the farmers to avail of the banking facilities and agri products of IDBI Bank.

Sarat Chandra Das, secretary, Grameen Sahara, Chaygaon, spoke on the challenges being faced by farmers and mentioned various steps being initiated or proposed to address these challenges and the role of banks in providing timely credit. He appealed to all farmers to work towards the economic development of the North Eastern region.

During the event, some farmers, who are customers of IDBI Bank, were felicitated by the bank.

The Farmers� Day is celebrated by the Government of India on December 23 every year to highlight the important role played by farmers in social and economic development of a country and to reward farmers for their contribution to the society.
