GUWAHATI, Nov 5 - For a filmmaker support from his or her family is very important. The support is needed especially during the initial phase of the career, said filmmaker Pravin Morchhale while sharing his experience at the Guwahati International Film Festival (GIFF) here today.
Morchhale made the remark while taking part in an open session on the topic �How I Started Making Films: Personal Stories of Film Makers� at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra.
�I always believe in myself and have developed my own way of filmmaking. My films may not always get commercial success, but I am determined to continue with the journey. As a filmmaker you need to follow the call of your heart for a good film. But to make a propaganda film, you have to go through various calculations,� he added.
Another panellist, young filmmaker Arjunn Dutta said that making short films has helped him a lot during the initial stage of his career to develop himself. He added that honesty and sincerity are very essential to achieve success in filmmaking.
Filmmaker Ranjan Ghosh, who was also a panellist at the session, revealed that the online platform YouTube has helped him a lot to get exposure during the early days.
�If you want to go in for creative cinema, then you need to choose a good producer,� he opined.
Bhaskar Hazarika, who moderated the event, said, �During the shooting of Kothanodi, I had faced new problems every day. Finding a producer was also a challenge for me. But fortunately members of my unit were very supportive. I think for a good film a good unit of artistes and technicians is also very important because filmmaking is a collaborative activity.�
Director Dominic Sangma, while sharing his experience of his first film, said, �Members of my family also became part of my unit, which was a great support for me. But still, I had faced lots of trouble. During that time I had only the script but no money to make a film.�
