Fall in road mishap fatalities in 2020 over previous year

GUWAHATI, Feb 9: The number of people killed in road accidents in the city decreased by around 14 per cent in 2020 as compared to 2019.

Altogether 215 people had died in 699 road accidents in the city in 2020 as compared to 249 people who were killed in 931 road accidents in 2019. In 2018, as many as 258 people had died in 1051 road accidents in the city.

The Traffic police have also managed to bring down road fatalities in the city in the last three years. According to data provided by the City Traffic police, as many as 208 fatal accidents and 491 non-fatal accidents were reported in 2020. As many as 469 people sustained injuries in 2020.

In 2019, 240 fatal and 691 non-fatal road accidents were reported in the city. As many as 836 people sustained injuries in 2019. According to the data, 247 fatal and 804 non-fatal road accidents were reported in different parts of the city in 2018. As many as 775 people sustained injuries in the accidents in that year.

Monthwise, 30 people died in January, 20 in February, 13 in March, 9 in April, 11 in May, 14 in June, 10 in July, 12 in August, 22 in September, 26 in October, 22 in November and 26 people died in December 2020.

The number of people who died in January 2019 was 20 while 16 people died in February, 27 in March, 18 in April, 27 in May, 14 in June, 18 in July, 19 in August, 22 in September, 19 in October, 26 in November and 23 people died in December 2019. In 2018, as many as 22 people died in January, 26 in February, 29 in March, 13 in April, 21 in May, 12 in June, 24 in July, 17 in August, 16 in September, 19 in October, 26 in November and 33 people died in December.
