AGARTALA, Aug 22 - Senior Congress leader Luizinho Faleiro has been appointed as the general secretary in charge of six NE States including the BJP-ruled Tripura by replacing CP Joshi.
�Rahul Gandhi has cleared Luizinho Falerio�s name to lead the Congress in Tripura along with five other NE States except Assam,� said a senior party leaders here on Tuesday.
Joshi has been the in-charge of six NE States, including Tripura, for quite a long time without any tangible change in the strength of the party organisation. Under his leadership, the Congress suffered losses in these States in the last Lok Sabha elections, prompting Congress president Rahul Gandhi to pick a new face ahead of the ensuing general election.
Faleiro, a former Goa Chief Minister, has good knowledge of the State�s politics as he worked as a general secretary for Tripura from 2011 to 2013.
PCC president Birajit Sinha welcomed Falerio as the custodian of the Congress in Tripura. �Faleiroji is an old friend of mine. We had worked together for long years. I hope he will bring a new zeal among the leaders to boost the organisation before the Lok Sabha elections,� Sinha said here.
