Falcon Festival to be held at Umrangso

GUWAHATI, Oct 28 - The first-ever Falcon Festival, the biggest festival in Dima Hasao, is being organised at Umrangso by Blue Hills Society, in association with Wildlife Trust of India, CAF (Charities Aid Foundation) on October 31 and November 1, stated a press release.

A two-day event is to be held at Karbi Club ground of Umrangso in Dima Hasao district. This event is also supported by North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, Dima Hasao Forest Dept, All Dimasa Students� Union, Dimasa Students� Union, Karbi Students� Association, Khelma Federation Club, Tularam Club, Embellish Photography, Equinox Musical Society etc.

The two-day event will see DJs and renowned bands like Celestial Sphere, Sout Recho participating. Tourists from within the State and other parts of the world are expected to attend the programme.

The event is being organised to celebrate and to raise awareness on the Amur Falcons, which covers one of the longest migratory routes, usually from the second week of October every year.

Amur Falcon is a small raptor of the falcon family. It breeds in south-eastern Siberia and northern China before migrating in large flocks across India and over the Arabian Sea to winter in South Africa.

Umrangso is an industrial town in Dima Hasao district. It is located on the Assam-Meghalaya border, some 112 km from Haflong, the district headquarters of Dima Hasao.
