Fake birth certificate racket busted

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Aug 1 - Sensation prevailed here on Friday evening, when an incident of issuing of fake birth certificates by a grade IV employee of the Biswanath Ghat Primary Health Centre (PHC), Unush Ali, came to light.

The fake certificates were issued to be deposited in the NRC centres along with the NRC application forms. Dr B Paul, in-charge of the Biswanath Ghat Primary Health Centre, has lodged a complaint with the Biswanath Chariali Police Station and a case was registered. However, the accused managed to flee.

Soon after the incident came to light, a high-level meeting was convened by Pallab Gopal Jha, SDO (C), Biswanath at his office to discuss the matter thoroughly. The meeting was attended by the Biswanath Superintendent of Police, Manavendra Devroy, Circle Officer, Biswanath Sanjeev Dolai, Subdivisional Health Officer (SDMO), Biswanath Dr Narayan Upadhyaya, Subdivisional Health Officer (SDMO-PHC), Biswanath Dr Bizut Hazarika and Biswanath Ghat Primary Health Centre in-charge Dr B Paul. The meeting decided to keep the NRC application forms of the three centres viz., Biswanath Ghat, Kumalia and Panibharal in the custody of the SP Office and also to scrutinise the birth certificates submitted with the NRC forms of those centres.

A Special Scrutiny Team was formed with Circle Officer, Biswanath and Circle Registrar Sanjeev Dolai, Additional SP, Biswanath (Law and Order) Bedanta Pratim Borkakaty, Subdivisional Health Officer (SDMO), Biswanath Dr Narayan Upadhyaya, Subdivisional Health Officer (SDMO-PHC), Biswanath Dr Bizut Hazarika and Biswanath Ghat Primary Health Centre in-charge Dr B Paul and Sub-Divisional Fishery Development Officer and LRCR of Monabari NRC Centre T Hazarika as members in this respect. The Special Scrutiny Team began the process of scrutiny today.

Meanwhile, the Biswanath Anchalik unit of AJYCP submitted a memorandum to the SDO (C), Biswanath today demanding a high-level inquiry into the matter and also urged stern action against the guilty.
