By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 8 - Asam Sahitya Sabha today resented the failure of the State Government to honour renowned folk singer late Rameswar Pathak.

In a statement here today, the Sabha described the failure of the Government to honour to the renowned folk singer as an unhealthy precedent for the national life of the State and urged the Government to confer due honour on the folk artiste posthumously.

The Sabha said in its statement, which was jointly issued by its general secretary Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi and working president of the Sabhas cultural committee Kumar Dipak Das, that failure of the Government to recognise the seminal contributions made by late Pathak to the world of Kamrupi Loka Geet is unfortunate.

It has urged the Government to name the bye lane on which the residence of the renowned folk artiste is located, after him. For the purpose, the Sabha will also submit a memorandum to the Guwahati Municipal Corporation, it said.
