GUWAHATI, July 2 � The 11th edition of the East Zone Carrom Championship got under way at the Nagaon Sports Association�s (NSA) Indoor Stadium today.
The tournament, recognised by the All India Carrom Federation (AICF), has been organised by the Assam Carrom Association (ACA) with the help of NSA. Around 80 players representing Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura are taking part in team and indivual events in men, women, boys and girls U-18 categories.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by Nagaon SP Surinder Kumar who also hoisted the State carrom body�s flag. Secretary of the ACA and senior official of AICF Pradip Kumar Hazarika unfirled the Federation flag while Tapan Kumar Sarma hoisted the NSA flag in the opening ceremony.
Assam and Manipur are leading in both men and women team events in the preliminary stage.
