ITANAGAR, Sept 4 - Acting on specific inputs, security forces have busted an extortion racket in Mpen area under the Miao circle of Changlang district and apprehended an ultra.
Changlang Police, along with personnel of the 171 Bn CRPF and the 14th Rajput Regiment, launched an operation on Thursday and nabbed one Wangmon Khimhun (22). The joint security team also recovered one Chinese-made assault rifle, one magazine, 29 live ammunition and other incriminating documents from his possession, Changlang SP Mihin Gambo said.
The arrested ultra was carrying out extortion in the name of the NSCN-K.
The team later recovered a huge cache of AK-47 ammunition, four magazines, one pouch and one holster from a hideout, the SP said. A case has been registered at the Miao PS in this connection.
In a related development on Wednesday, Assam Rifles personnel apprehended an active ULFA(I) cadre, identified as Bhaity Asom (30), from the vicinity of Nampong circle.
