By Correspondent

DIPHU, May 3 The CPI(ML) Liberation Hills Party Committee demanded extension of the bamboo supply agreement between Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and Hindustan Paper Corporation Limited (HPCL).

The newly elected secretary of the CPI (ML) Liberation Hills Party Committee, Rabi Kumar Phangcho, has demanded immediate cancellation of the agreement which was executed two years back between the KAAC and M/S Hills Trade Agency (HTA).

Phangcho said that the original agreement between KAAC and HPCL on allotment or supply of bamboo executed about 30 years ago should be rectified by removing the complexities in some supplementary agreements.

While pointing out on the agreement executed between KAAC and M/S HTA, Phangcho stated that forest wealth of the hill district of Karbi Anglong will move towards the danger if the agreement runs long in future. As an apparent example of this is the agreement of the Dima Hasao district and R S Gandhi which agreement has been pushing the naturally endowed Dima Hasao district in danger. The people of Karbi Anglong will also have to face the same consequent the same situation Dima Hasao Autonomous Council district is facing now, the CPI (ML) leader said.

He further said through his signed press release that despite continuous protest of many social and political organizations the cancellation demand of R S Gandhis agreement has not been responded by the Congress-led KAAC body.

While stating on the formation of Private Public Partnership forum suggested by the MP Biren Sing Engti, the CPI (ML) Liberation Hillls Party Committee leader, Phangcho directly opposed and he said that they will never allow to hand over the natural forest wealth to any individual sector. He said adding that bamboo agreement was executed between Dima Hasao and RS Gandhi. But this agreement could not generate employment for the local unemployed youths in the district. Rather the agreement has put the naturally wealth Dima Hasao district in danger, Phangcho added.

Meanwhile protesting sternly, the CPI (ML) party leader demanded to cancel immediately the executed agreement with the M/S HTA. Otherwise a vigorous agitation will be launched against the agreement, Phangcho threaten through the press release.
