Exit polls bid to demoralize Opp: AGP

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 12 The Opposition Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on Thursday termed the exit polls of CNN-IBN and Todays Chanakya as unscientific and an attempt to mislead the people of the State who were in favour of a political change.

Addressing mediapersons here on the eve of counting, leader of Opposition in the Assam Assembly Prafulla Kumar Mahanta said that the exit polls were nothing but publicity stunts to hype the image of the ruling Congress.

It needs to be mentioned here that these exit polls have predicted the election results in favour of the Congress which the AGP has rubbished as baseless.

The exit polls are attempted at demoralizing the Opposition and confusing the people of the State, accused Mahanta.

The former Chief Minister emphasized that the new government will be a non-Congress government and he mentioned that the AGP was in the process of formalizing an understanding with all the anti-Congress political parties.

The baseless exit polls are also aimed at stalling this process of understanding at forming a non-Congress government, alleged Mahanta.

On the other hand, Mahanta said that if the exit poll analysis becomes a reality despite the strong wind of change blowing in favour of the Opposition then something must be wrong with the EVMs. The Congress has left no stone unturned to come back to power by using the administrative machinery. But with confidence we are saying that the dream of the Congress to return to power for the third consecutive term will fail, said Mahanta, mentioning that the AGP has adopted a three-pronged approach to form the next non-Congress government.

Mahanta said that the first option was to form a government of the AGP, BJP, Gana Shakti, BPF and independents combined. The second option is to form a government of AGP, AIUDF, BPPF, Gana Shakti, independents and ASDC and the third alternative is to form a government of all parties opposing the Congress, he elaborated.
