Exhibitions mark celebration of World Photography Day

DIBRUGARH, Aug 20 - As part of the World Photography Day celebration, the Centre for Studies in Journalism and Mass Communication of Dibrugarh University in collaboration with Dibrugarh Press Club organised a photography exhibition-cum-workshop at the PA Sangma Students� Activity Centre of Dibrugarh University.

The programme that got under way from 11 am was inaugurated by Dr Parmananda Sonowal, Joint Registrar (Administration), Dibrugarh University. Lighting of the traditional lamp was initiated by Prabir Chakravorty, president of Dibrugarh Press Club.

Some 216 selected photographs by various photographers from different parts of the region were displayed at the exhibition venue. Prizes for the best photography were also awarded on the occasion in two categories � mobile phone photography and DSLR photography.

Later, a workshop with the journalism students of the varsity was organised at the Centre for Studies in Journalism and Mass Communication. The chairperson of the Centre Professor Satyakam Borthakur, Manashjyoti Dutta, general secretary of Dibrugarh Press Club and faculty members of the Centre and office-bearers of Dibrugarh Press Club were among those who attended the programme.

IN BARPETA: In the meantime, a solo photography exhibition was organised by Satyajit Bayan, who is an amateur photographer and an environment activist. The exhibition, which was held in Barpeta Press Club, continued from August 18 to 19, our Correspondent adds.

Most of the photographs exhibited were captured in the wild. It attracted a large number of visitors during both the days. Besides, photographs of festivals and performing arts were also displayed in the exhibition which was well admired by the visitors.

Bayan, who pursued photography as a hobby, not only showed promise, but also his adept hand in capturing his choice through his exhibits.

Talking to this Correspondent, Bayan informed that the exhibition was organised as a part of World Photography Day celebration. He expressed the hope that such exhibitions would provide an opportunity to the people to acquaint themselves with the rich treasures of Barpeta and its surrounding areas and inspire the young generation to adopt photography both as a hobby and a profession.
