Exhibition of books by woman writers held

GUWAHATI, Sept 3 � An exhibition of books by woman writers of undivided Kamrup district was held today at the Bhagawati Prasad Baruah Bhawan under the auspices of the woman writers' cell of the Kamrup Mahanagar Zila Sahitya Sabha.

Formally inaugurating the exhibition, Sahitya Akademi award winner Dr Rita Choudhury dwelt at length on the relentless struggle of woman writers throughout the world in upholding the cause of women in particular and humanity at large.

Dr Choudhury said that identity of woman stems from the total identity of humanity as a whole and there should not be any abhorrence for the common identity. She expressed happiness over the great upsurge visible among the younger sections of the woman writers of Assam in portraying the correct picture of contemporary society, highlighting the agony and expressions of the Assamese people as a whole.

Presiding over the function, DN Chakravartty, senior journalist, referred to the growth of a new generation of Assamese woman writers who had shown all the signs of excelling their male counterparts.

Manju Dutta Baruah, convenor of the woman writers� cell, welcomed the guests while Dimbeswar Pathak, secretary of the Kamrup Mahanagar Zila Sahitya Sabha explained the objective of holding such exhibitions. Around 2,000 books from over 300 writers were exhibited in the event.

Dr Anima Guha, Nirupama Borgohain, Ahalya Gogoi, Bandita Phukan, Dr Minoti Hazarika, Eli Ahmed and Dr Lily Rajbongshi were among those present at the function.
