Excise dept drive against spurious liquor sale

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Dec 29 The Excise department has chalked out a road-map to plug the entry routes of illicit distilled liquor (local made), sale of which goes high during New Year in and around Guwahati.

The department, in a concerted move, has already initiated operation in various potential hubs and stocks of liquor sale in and around Guwahati to prevent sale of spurious liquor.

I have asked the Excise inspectors to lead searches in possible dens of such liquor and book the culprits. Already information on various locations is pouring in and we are acting accordingly, said Excise department, Kamrup, Superintendent AK Bayan told this reporter.

Sale of local-made liquor goes high invariably along with the Indian made foreign liquor during New Year prompting the department concerned to step up moves against those indulging in such sales.

Bayan further bracketed places like Sonapur, Rangiya and Digaru as main sources of supply of the illicit distilled liquor in the city and asserted that the Excise department personnel have been asked to step up vigil in these areas through which the consignment reaches the city.

Already, our officials are on the job and hill areas, which houses a number of liquor huts, are also being kept under scanner, he pointed out.

It needs mention that the Excise department (Enforcement) along with police and district administration officials will jointly carry out drives in the city in the New Year eve.
