Ex-Vice Chancellors felicitated

GUWAHATI, Jan 1 � Thirteen former Vice Chancellors of various universities of the North East were today felicitated by Education, Research and Development Foundation at a function organised at Regional College of Higher Education.

The former Vice Chancellors include Dr Nirmal Kumar Choudhury (Gauhati University), Dr Hiralal Duorah (Gauhati University), Dr AC Bhagawati (Arunachal University, now Rajiv Gandhi University), Dr KM Pathak (Tezpur University), Kamleswar Bora (Dibrugarh University), Dr Kulendu Pathak ( Dibrugarh University), Dr Gajendra Nath Talukdar (Gauhati University), Dr Yamini Mohan Choudhury (Gauhati University), Dr Dhirendra Nath Barthakur (Assam Agricultural University), Dr Devdas Kakoti (Dibrugarh University), Dr MK Miri (North Eastern Hill University), Dr Debo Prasad Baruah and Dr Atul Sarma (Gauhati University).

Dr Debo Prasad Baruah, Dr MK Miri, Dr Devdas Kakoti (Dibrugarh University) and Dr Atul Sarma could not make it to the function due to some personal engagements.

Meghalaya Governor RS Mooshahary felicitated the former vice-chancellors on behalf of the foundation.

Speaking on the occasion, Mooshahary said showered praise on the contributions of the former chancellors terming them as �champions of social transformation�.

�Society today is suffering from deficit in values and this elite group of people has been constantly trying to bring values to the society. Building values has now become more important than building infrastructure,� he pointed out.

�Education, to me should emphasise on three aspects which include making people responsible, righteous and national and that is what these people has done and are still doing,� Mooshahary pointed out.

Dr Nirmal Kumar Choudhury (Gauhati University) also spoke on the occasion. M Haque, chairman of ERD foundation was also present.
